What do you enjoy listening to?
The sounds of my home to which I've become accustomed over these many years, our church singing, the laughter of my family and the excitement of my grandchildren.
Greatest Indulgence?
This question left intentionally blank.
Definition of a retreat?
Watching God's handiwork through the sights and accompanying sounds of sunrises and sunsets. Working on my tractor at our property in East Texas.
What is one book that has impacted you?
It is difficult to select one book but the most impactful topic would be related to developing as a servant leader, and how the guiding principles within these books usually align with the Bible.
What's on your Ipod right now?
I do not have an Ipod. Music speaks to me in many ways and I have several genres saved in my Pandora profile on my phone.
What brought you to Porter CofC?
An invitation from a beautiful brunette named Donna, who 2 years later became Mrs. Mitchell. Two of my closest friends also attended PCC and had invited me numerous times as well.
What inspires you?
The people of Haiti inspire me; they are physically and monetarily destitute, yet they sing when they work and no one walks by without a greeting and a smile. Watching someone who may only have mediocre talent yet has the discipline to become a leader by serving as role model through their willingness and hard work. Someone who is willing to go the extra mile and invest their time and resources to help others.
Your favorite snack?
Popcorn, but for some reason it is best after 10 p.m.
If you could vacation anywhere, where would it be?
A Holy Land Tour would top the list. I would also like to take Donna on a historical lighthouse tour at various sites on the Atlantic Ocean. Taking some road trips for baseball games at legendary ballparks around the country would also be enjoyable.
Childhood ambition?
There were several, don’t remember any specifics for one above another.
What's your favorite T.V. series?
Is March Madness considered a T.V. series? Overall, I'm fairly out of touch with the series produced today. Probably Blue Bloods reruns is what is most watched, and it is more interesting after having visited New York several times in recent years.
Favorite weather season, and why?
I enjoy the crispness and color change of fall. It is the start of deer hunting season and closes with the holidays. The rejuvenation of spring is also a great time of year.
Who lives in your house?
My wife Donna, my mother in-law the precious Sister B, me and the family dog Madi.
What famous person do people tell you that you look like?
I've been given names of some people I look like, but I don't think any of them are famous.
Your first job?
Mowing lawns
When did you 1st come to Porter CofC?
1980
What is your biggest challenge?
Shutting things down at night to get enough sleep.
What is one thing people don't know about you?
I can't think of anything that is not well known about me that I want everyone to know by placing it on the internet. I do invite all to come visit us at PCC as that is a much better way to get to know us than reading these interview questions.
