Seldom are offenses forgiven without a penalty imposed on the guilty party, especially when we truly are guilty. But that is exactly what happened on the cross. With His atoning death, Jesus paid the penalty for our sin and canceled the written code against us. Although the Old Testament was a good tutor, we no longer need to keep its numerous laws and regulations. Now, only one code is expedient: that we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; God took it away, nailing it to the cross.
